Key Knowledge Progression
At Flying High Academy Ladybrook, we want every child to build a deep, secure understanding of what they learn. To help us achieve this, we use Key Knowledge Progression Documents (KKPDs) across subjects.
Each KKPD sets out the important knowledge and skills children should gain in every year group. These statements are based on the National Curriculum and show how learning develops step by step as children move through school. They act like a roadmap: making clear what has already been taught, what is being taught now and what will come next.
Teachers use these statements to plan lessons and sequences of learning that build on prior knowledge. This means pupils revisit key ideas regularly, deepening their understanding and remembering more overtime. The statements also help us to assess pupils’ progress, ensuring they are on track and ready for the next stage in their learning.
There are several benefits of using KKPDs consistently:
-
Learning is sequenced logically from year to year.
-
No important knowledge is missed and pupils are fully prepared for what comes next.
-
High expectations are set for all children, with clear end points.
-
Progress can be seen clearly, both in individual subjects and across the whole curriculum.
In this way, the KKPDs help us deliver a curriculum that is ambitious, coherent, and ensures every child has the knowledge and skills they need to succeed.
