Autumn Term Enquiry: What If a Voice Isn’t Heard?

In Autumn Term, Year 6 explore WWII and its impact locally, nationally and globally. They will learn about the causes of the war, the countries involved (Axis and Allies), and the difference between an invasion and a war. Children will investigate how the war affected communities, with a focus on Mansfield and Nottinghamshire, and consider whether any positive outcomes emerged from the conflict.

Through History, Geography, Science and Art, children will study the local context, the importance of industries and electricity during the blackout, and the broader societal effects of war. This enquiry helps children understand the impact of conflict on people, communities, and nations.

Spring Term Enquiry: How Do We Leave a Legacy?

In Spring Term, children explore the Maya civilisation and its influence on society, trade and daily life. They will compare this civilisation to those studied in Britain and Europe, using their geographical knowledge to understand how location affected trade, resources and culture.

Through History, Geography, Art and DT, children will examine how civilisations leave a lasting legacy and reflect on how people and cultures influence each other across time and continents. This enquiry builds on previous learning of civilisations and prepares children for secondary history studies.

Summer Term Enquiry: Can Trade Ever Truly Be Fair?

This term, children focus on global trade and Fairtrade, considering how human actions impact the environment, society and the economy. They will use fieldwork, sources and data to investigate trade fairness and think critically about qualitative and quantitative information.

Through Geography, DT, Art and Science, children will explore the impact of trade, reflect on their own consumer choices, and consider how fairness and sustainability affect the world. This enquiry encourages children to connect historical trade, environmental issues, and social responsibility, preparing them for secondary-level geography and global citizenship studies.
