Autumn Enquiry: What Makes Something Worth Remembering?

This term, children explore significant events and people from the past. They will move from learning about Queen Victoria to studying the Titanic, using artefacts and replicas to understand how history is recorded. Children will be introduced to the idea of a historical source (an item or document that holds important information about the past) and will begin to think about where sources come from and whether they are primary or secondary.

Through History and Art, children will compare different sources, discuss social differences, and consider why some events are remembered more than others. This enquiry also supports learning in Geography, where they study the Titanic’s route, and in Maths, when exploring capacity in relation to the ship filling with water.

 

Spring Term Enquiry: Are We Defined by Our Location?

This term, children develop their knowledge of the world and how places are connected. They will explore continents, the Northern and Southern hemispheres, and the equator, and learn about the seven continents using songs and maps. They will compare Europe (their continent) with South America, looking closely at Brazil; and comparing landscapes and lifestyles.

Through Geography and Science, children will continue to develop mapping skills; understand physical and human features; and begin to think about how people and environments interact. This enquiry lays the foundations for learning about natural disasters and climate change in later years.

 

Summer Term Enquiry: Can One Person Change the World?

This term, children focus on inspirational individuals from history. They will study people such as Rosa Parks and George Africanus, comparing their lives, achievements and the impact they had on others. Children will learn that significant people can influence society in different ways and that opinions about them may vary.

Through History and Art/DT, children will explore how individuals contribute to communities, connect their learning to local history, and reflect on how actions can create lasting change. This enquiry also links to growth mindset, encouraging children to consider how they can make a difference themselves.
