In this term, Year 1 children begin to explore how life has changed over time. They will look at old and new artefacts, such as Victorian toys, and compare them with their own toys. Using these objects, children will discuss similarities and differences and start to understand timelines and chronology.

 

Spring Term Enquiry: What Gives the UK Its Character?

This term, children explore the geography of the UK and what makes it special. They will learn about seasonal patterns, the characteristics of towns and cities, and how the landscape and communities have changed over time. Historical sources and maps help children understand how people have lived and worked in the UK across different periods.

 

Summer Term Enquiry: Who Changed the World for Me?

This term, children focus on significant people and events from the past, starting with Queen Victoria and the Victorian era. They will visit a local Victorian manor house to explore how life was different for children during that time. Children will link these experiences to other historical events, such as the Titanic, and consider how transport, homes, and daily life have changed.
