Why We Teach British Values

British Values are woven throughout our curriculum and school life. They support children in becoming well-rounded, thoughtful and responsible citizens. By learning about and living these values, our children:

British Values in Action at Ladybrook

British Values aren’t just taught – they are lived every day. You will see them in our classrooms, on planning by teachers, in assemblies and in the way we learn and play together. Examples include:

• Democracy – Children share their voice through School Council elections, class discussions, and pupil surveys. This is also taught explicitly through the teaching of the Ancient Greeks in Year 4.

• The Rule of Law – We work together to follow our school expectations, supported by visits from the police, fire service and other local authorities.

• Individual Liberty – Children are encouraged to make safe and responsible choices, whether in their learning, extracurricular activities or independent challenges.

• Mutual Respect – Respect is shown through teamwork, buddy systems and celebrating acts of kindness and good manners.

• Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs – Through RE lessons, cultural celebrations and visits to places of worship, children learn about and appreciate different religions and worldviews.
