Online Safety

Keeping Children Safe Online

At Flying High Academy Ladybrook, keeping children safe online is an important part of our safeguarding duty. Children are growing up in a digital world and it is our job to help them use technology safely, responsibly and confidently. Online safety is taught in every year group and woven into Computing, PSHE and Relationships & Health Education.

How we protect children in school

All school devices and internet access are protected by filtering and monitoring systems to prevent harmful or inappropriate content being accessed. Staff receive regular safeguarding training and supervise online activity carefully. The school’s Online Safety Lead (Miss K. Rose), as well as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Deputy Safeguarding Leads (DDSL) oversee online safety and is the point of contact for any concerns. For information on our DSL and DDSL, please see the who's who.

What to do if you are worried

If you ever have a concern about online behaviour or the safety of a child, you can contact Online Safety Lead or DSL directly through the school office or on the Class Dojo app. You can also use the link below to report concerns to the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre.

Helping your child at home

Parents play a vital role in supporting children to stay safe online. Below are some trusted organisations with advice, guides and tools you can use at home:

  • Thinkuknow (age-specific games and advice for children)

  • UK Safer Internet Centre (parent guides and tips)

  • Internet Matters (device and app controls)

  • NSPCC NetAware (reviews of apps, games, and social networks)

Curriculum and learning

Children are taught to recognise and respond to online risks in age-appropriate ways. This includes:

  • Content – understanding how to spot false, misleading, or harmful material.

  • Contact – knowing how to respond to unwanted messages or stranger contact.

  • Conduct – recognising respectful behaviour online and avoiding cyberbullying.

  • Commerce – being alert to scams, advertising, and in-app purchases.
