Working Towards Year 2 Age Related Expectations

I can start some sentences with capital letters.

I can end some sentences with full stops.

I can segment spoken words into phonemes.

I can form lower-case letters in the correct direction, starting and finishing in the right place.

I can form lower-case letters of the correct size in some of the writing.

I can use finger spaces between words.

 

Working Within Year 2 Age Related Expectations

I can start most sentences with capital letters.

I can end most sentences with full stops.

I can end some sentences with question marks & exclamation marks.

I can write different types of sentences: statements, questions, exclamations & commands.

I can use expanded noun phrases to describe objects.

I can use the present and past tense mostly correctly and throughout a piece of my writing.

I can use or, and, but to join sentences.

I can use when, if, that, because to join sentences.

I can add suffixes to spell some words correctly in my writing e.g. –ment, –ness, –ful, –less, –ly

I can use diagonal and horizontal strokes to join letters in some of my writing.

I can write using capital letters and digits of the correct size and relationship to one another and to lower case letters.

I can use commas to separate items in a list.

I can use apostrophes to show when something belongs to someone e.g. Katie’s coat.

I can spell words with apostrophes for missing letters e.g. couldn’t- could not

I can add suffixes to spell some words correctly in my writing e.g. –ment, –ness, –ful, –less, –ly

I can use the diagonal and horizontal strokes needed to join letters in most of my writing.
